Leadership
Featuring BP
In the year 2000, the Refining Division of energy company BP was in trouble. Refinery capacity exceeded demand. The company was cutting costs. And workers were unhappy. Leadership took action. They formed Operation People to examine ways to move the business forward. Operation People first met for three days in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. During that conference, the team developed four key initiatives. One initiative called for a common leadership model that would help unify Refining across the company. There was a by-product of the conference as well. At the time, no one could have predicted how important it would become.
